Sooo... nothing major has happened around here sense my last post, a few more days at the beach, planning trips, and a few days of school.
The beach has been treating us very well! Yesterday I went with two friends exploring on the Cliffs and exposed rocks during low tied. We went from Bar Beach to Newcastle Beach (give it a look on google maps) climbing on rocks and trying to find a passage up the cliffs. It was very cool to see all the tide pools, crabs, and remote spots with nobody around. We came upon a local bath which is carved out of the rocks with the waves breaking into it. We ran into a local guy there who was just hanging out smoking and drinking his goon (goon is cheap bagged wine. They call it goon because goon is also a word they use for pillow and when homeless people are done drinking their bagged wine theyll blow it up and turn it into a pillow, hence the name goon!) Anyways... he informed us that these particular baths were carved out by prisoners around 1880 with nothing more than chisels.
It was a very neat walk unfortunately I did not bring my camera, guess ill just have to make a point to go back.
Ive been fascinated by the hang gliders and have been wanting to talk with one of them. Just the other day I got my wish, one of them crash landed on the beach right in front of us just clearing our group by a few feet. It was really neat to talk to him about hang gliding, he does races that can last up to 7 Hrs. and climb up to 12,000 Ft. I hope to get up there myself someday.
Before coming to Australia i've heard a bit about their obsession with Vegemite which is a spread commonly put on toast. My Australian housemate offered me some and I jumped at the chance. I took a big first bite and it was HANDS DOWN THE ABSOLUTE WORST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN ON PURPOSE OR ACCIDENT!!! She put a ton on there and it stuck to the roof of my mouth, not the best taste but still a good experience. Ive had some MeatPies which are another Australian staple and those were much much better! They're just what they sound like a pie with meat and gravy in it.
I just booked an adventure packed trip to New Zealand for Easter Break! Im super excited for the trip, well be there for 15 days and travel all around the southern island. Some of the activities include bungie jumping, helicopter ride, jet boating, rafting and much more! Also hopefully going into Sydney for St.Patricks day.
oh, and classes are well... going.
Bear hugs and belly rubs,
Evan
